Recently, the Emma Sleep mattress was awarded numerous titles for being best mattress in a box for 2023. Until around August of 2021, I'd never heard of this company, despite them being one of the highest rated companies in this sector overseas in their native Germany.
It wasn't long before I discovered they have recently setup shop in Australia and New Zealand. They follow the same business model as other mattress companies, by offering a mattress in a box, that is shipped nationwide in a cardboard box, that comes with a 100 night trial and a 10 year warranty.
It was then that I discovered how big this company really is, operating in over 30 countries, it's one of the fastest growing mattress companies in the world.
They've grown so fast that they now offer a wide range of mattresses including the original; the Comfort (reviewed below, it's the cheapest one), the Comfort II, the Diamond Hybrid and Zero Gravity mattresses. Be sure to click on each of those links if you're keen to see their other models as I've now reviewed those too.
My Rating:
Best Offer: Up to 35% OFF
Readers of Boxed Mattress guide can ensure they get the biggest and best discount available through this page. Why pay full price when you can save money to spend on other things in life? Get the exact same mattress as those paying full price (unlucky!).
Plus you'll get all the same great benefits including fast shipping, 100 night trial and a huge 10 year warranty.
Emma Sleep Company Overview
It's important to start by discussing the company behind the brand. You can buy a mattress with a 10 year warranty, but if the company closes within a year, it's in vein. Take the 624 mattress which we reviewed last year, it's now bankrupt, gone - like a fart in the wind. That extended warranty, totally worthless!
Emma Sleep was established in Germany back in 2015, so it's been around for a good 8 years already so those early adopters are coming up on their 10 year warranties already. WOW. That shows that Emma Sleep is in it for the long haul. Plus recently they've won numerous startup-awards in Europe and more recently design awards.
According to their website, they manufacture all their mattresses in Germany and ship them to their distribution centre in Australia. This work is done by over 300 employees and is subject to top-notch Germany engineering.
So already we can see that this company isn't going anywhere, and as other competitors come and go, Emma seems to come out on top.
Getting Our Emma Mattress Delivered
It arrived by courier within a couple of days after ordering. Sure enough it was vacuum sealed into this tiny box which weighs around 15kg. They ship pretty much anywhere in Australia and New Zealand including rural.
After putting it down on the base of our bed, it expanded within 30 seconds by cutting a hole in the plastic covering.
The manufacturer states it can take 1-2 hours to fully inflate. Some reviews do say it has a distinctive smell for the first few days but ours came out smelling very clean and fresh.
As you can see above it's really portable when it arrives!
Emma Sleep Mattress Review
The mattress comes in 6 different sizes with the elusive Super King (regularly sold out) being my favourite. They've also got the single, king single, double, queen and king. All mattresses come with the same depth (25cm) making this a fairly large mattress.
The mattress comes with several layers, supported by foam. It would be fair to say this is a memory foam mattress, which may not suit everyone.
The bottom layer is point-elastic foam which is designed for partner comfort, to stop all those movements when tossing and turning that would normally wake up your partner.
The foundation layer of the Emma Sleep comes with their iconic 7-zone foam which offers a 'spring-like-quality' material which can help to alleviate unneeded pressure and help to distribute weight across the mattress.
Whether you're a front, back or side-sleeper, you'll be able to get comfortable thanks to the 7-zone technology included in the mattress.
On top of the foundation layer you'll find foam which is environmentally-friendly and is designed to provide comfort and breathability during warmer nights. If you live in Perth or Brisbane where it's hot year round, a traditional memory foam mattress can be very hot! Well you won't find that with Emma Sleep as they've considered that!
The Emma Sleep is also moisture resistant and has plenty of bounce while ensuring little movement across the bed. You can easily put a wine glass full of wine on the left side and jump up and down on the right without any movement to the glass.
This backs up the previous point about being zero partner disturbance with this mattress, so it's perfect for couples or that one partner who's tossing and turning or comes to bed late.
The top cover is made from elastic and comes with moisture-wicking qualities which help to evaporate sweat and moisture, by moving it to the top.
The cover can be fit like a glove and it also helps to cool down the mattress, as well as adding a non-slip cover. You won't be sliding around the mattress here. You can easily remove the cover and it's machine-washable so you can wash it with ease.

My Personal Emma Verdict
As a whole, this mattress by Emma is fantastic! It has provided both me and my partner with with consistent good night sleeps for 12 weeks now, we’ve never slept better, we fall asleep faster and body aches and pains are a thing of the past. It is important to note that I don't think this mattress is for everyone, some people prefer a spring mattress.
My daughter loves this mattress so much that I might have to buy a king single just for her too.
I think the delivery was very reasonable (free) was fast and the mattress came in pristine condition, they gave me 100 days to trial. You could return it, but I won't be as it's just so good.
The pricing is very affordable in my opinion and if you can pick it up during one of their sales it's even cheaper!
Emma Mattress provides exceptional customer service (I called once to ask if the top cover could be removed and washed), fast shipping and a fantastic overall top quality mattress, you’ve absolutely got to try it out for yourself, what have you got to lose? There's a full refund within the first 100 days if you're unhappy.
